Day 4 of work placement

Day 4

Today was another day in the office, it was a big learning day for me. I was able to work as a team with Sarah who’s one of the interior designers to focus on a young clients bedroom. However first I went through and picked out fabrics that fitted really well in the spaces for the clients window seats that I went to see the day prior, which I really enjoyed however it was hard to pick the perfect the patterns and colours for them as they are really specific in there taste within there homes.

After this, I was shown the basics of how they use 3D design to create their clients rooms before they make them. We had to work together to brainstorm the best way to use the small space as to which the client had as she had a very little room and we need to fit a large multi function desk space as well as a bed and shelving space, which was hard to do in such a small space but it made it a lot easier being able to actually use the software to block out the spaces for each. I was the taught how they create new furniture in there spaces to make them to scale and to clients exact needs. As only one person can be using the software at a time, Sarah continued to use it while I started on 2 mood boards of furniture for the office/study space. For the first one I was asked to run with an industrial look and for the second one I was able to have created freedom for what I think would fit the space. I decided on a rush navy blue room with copper/gold accents on it, which I think were just gorgeous and fitted the space perfectly. This consumed most of my day at work. If I was to do this again I might try and make my mood board clearer and similar as they have to have a lot of information on them however I just think there’s a lot going on and I think they need to be cleaner.

After work, I sped over to college to show and hand in my application for the GFW competition based on my identity. Between me and my lecturer we decided it was best to make my mood boards digitally as I already had most of my stuff on my iPad so I was able to use pages which I had learnt from my work experience to make the mood board which was a complete game changer for me as it’s so much faster and easier to use.
