Week 1 term 2

Monday - we’ve been jumping straight into pattern crazy and started by sewing the leggings that we made patterns for over Christmas. I didn’t realise that there was instructions on teams so I created my legging slightly different to everyone else but after a full construction of my leggings I found that they fit very well. They did need some small adjustments to crotch area to pull in the fabric a little bit more but overall I’m pleased with how they came out.

Tuesday - today we started by sitting down as a group and talking through our topics of choice for pattern crazy. We then swapped folders with the person to our right to review what work we had and to find areas where we could improve. I found that in my folder I could do more work into structure in general and patterns as an overall topic, as I’ve gone quite In depth with my topic but I could do with more work to stem its from. After this, we moved into doing some initial drawings from our topic.

Wednesday - during pattern cutting we continued with making pockets, and we tackled the welt pocket. This wasn’t too challenging for me but I did struggle a little with getting the correct size for the pocket as I got a bit confused when drafting my pattern as to which part of the pocket was which but I do feel that I was able to come out with successful sample overall.

Thursday - we continued with initial drawings today for Pattern Crazy. I started by drawing from honey and see how it moved on paper and in a bowl, and drawing what I could see, using techniques like one line drawing, bling contour, left hand and right hand, ect… this was to loosen up my drawings and start to make them more abstract. As I don’t want it to be obvious that I’ve drawn from honey. After this I test how honey would react in water and I found it made a brain like pattern. This inspired me to move bigger with my drawings, so that my hands aren’t limited to a small space. This lead me to painting with a large paint brush and ink. I love this style and felt I could use it when layering my pieces to make them more interesting. After drawing the honey I moved onto drawing my mum and emotions that I felt towards her and that were similar to the emotions around bee. I struggle a bit to begin with as I made them all black and white as I could then edit the colours in photoshop but I felt that lacked life and it wouldn’t be obvious to others that it’s emotions, and I also wanted it to invoke emotions in people to make them think and feel what my garment reflects, so I then just went while with my paints and making marks in the paper with as different different tools as possible. This helped me develop my work so that when I went home I could play around with the colours and layering my drawings to make them work as a whole.
