week Two of FMP
Week two of final major project
Monday - I started with a draping lesson today taught by Lareen. She spoke to us about how to make a basic pattern from the mannequin, then left us to experiment with the shapes based on our primary research drawings. I enjoyed being able to be creative in how I interpreted my drawing. I made sure to write down how I felt about each sample as I went through.
Tuesday - We had a workshop today that was all about making paper yarn and natural dyes. I found the dyeing a bit boring, as it's something I've already learned previously, and I felt I was looking to be pushed more in this area. The paper yarn, on the other hand, was very interesting, as it's not something I've seen or done before. Unfortunately, this took up the entire lesson time for the day, so I was slightly disappointed that I couldn't get on with my work, as it set me behind my time plan.
Wednesday - I created some primary drawings today from still lifes of flowers, in keeping with my exploration of Flower Power and the hippie movement. I found it therapeutic to do, as I was able to take my time and focus on how the flowers lay together to create new shapes and structures. I tried a variety of techniques, such as blind contour, left-hand, right-hand, and speed drawing, to help me develop more abstract shapes and lines.
Thursday - We started with group critiques, which I found interesting but also draining due to how long they take and how much time they consume in my plan. I received feedback that I need to be more in-depth with my research and ensure I have enough detail on my subcultures, so I’m going to focus on completing this before pushing further.
I also needed to start working in my book, so I began creating visual mood boards for cultural origins, Mods, Rockers, and the Hippies. I felt this was important to include in my book because I wanted a visual reference point to refer back to when I might be going down a rabbit hole in my work.
