Week Four and Five of FMP - Easter

Week Four and Five of FMP - Easter Monday- it it Easter holidays so I was at home today working on mounting everything in my book to make sure everything flows well as my presentation was apart of my feedback I received and a goal I set at the start of the project. Tuesday - I was able to come into college to use some of the facilities today. I started with creating mono prints in the morning. This involved finding a point of reference in my book, drawing that onto mono prints and then writing how I felt about the final result so that I had a record of it and could easterly transfer that into my book.  I found this worked very well as it stopped me from putting off my annotation til the last moment  and meant I could reflect on each piece to see what needed developing. After finishing my mono prints I moved onto jelly printing. I repeated the same process with the jelly printing as my mono prints. I tried thinking about all elements that I would need to produce to make my repeat patterns, so I started with focusing on drawing shapes that I could develop over a background digitally. Then I focused on making backgrounds that I could physically draw into to make patterns. Additionally I thought about how I could layer techniques on top, for example using carbon copy paper. Tuesday - I focused my attention on making heat transfer prints. I started the morning by painting up a large amount of pages with different shapes and backgrounds that I developed from my book. I did also make a tester sample for how all the colours would come out as I had some new paints that I hadn’t used before and I wanted to figure out how it would react under heat. In the afternoon I started printing onto fabric. I started with synthetic fabrics and just one design, then as the afternoon went on I developed them by layering designs and backgrounds, which lead me to try using net fabric to see if that distributed the prints to further develop it. I found the net too not have the desired effect on the fabric as I wanted to achieve but I did find that when I layered up the printed net it had a very interesting effect of creating a higher density of colour which I loved. So I then tried to print onto organza which had the same effect but was more flowy which I prefer. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday - this time was spent mounting up my work into my book and developing my samples with things like carbon copy paper, one line drawing with pens and layering drawing digitally. This helped me develop the shapes I was seeing and create more Seth in my work. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday - these days were spent further developing my work using my mono prints and also creating samples from my heat transfer of hand smocking and gatherings. To further develop them I placed them on models and Manniquin so that I’m starting to develop my draping and designing. Throughout this time I also mounted my previous draping into my pattern cutting folder and further researched and mounted artist that influenced my work. Thursday - Funeral. Friday, Saturday and Sunday- continued book work and technique development.
