Week 5
Week 5
Monday, today was the first day of the 10 hour white shirt exam. I found the day actually really productive as it kept me focused not only having the time pressure but having my colleagues around me kept me focused. I did find I overestimated the amount of time I needed for each task and that I was getting through them a lot faster then I thought I would which is a good thing because it means I can get more done and really focus on the quality of my garment and how I make it.
Tuesday, we started today by sharing our first full drafts of our personal statements. We swapped with our other colleagues and gave feedback. Some of the feedback I got was to link my skills to an end goal and tell how they can be used for my future and what I want to do. This was really useful as I didn’t really know what steps I wanted to take next with my personal statement. After this we continued work on getting through the different tasks for white on white dress my colleagues taught us smocking, which was definitely a trust the process techniques but I enjoyed it and she was a very good teacher. Finally to finish the day we worked on some embroidery the different colleague taught us. This was a little bit more difficult because things were being explained the best or shown how to do them well. I did manage to get the hang of most things though after some trial and error.
Wednesday, today I focused mostly on doing my white on white shirt. I focused most of my energy on making my detachable collar. This was quite a simple process of just seeing the sides together and turning it in and then hand sewing the hook and eyes on. And repeating onto the other side. Unfortunately after this I was quite sick and ill so had to go home and was not able to come in on Thursday.
